In the blink of an eye it’s year-end again; this year has also passed uneventfully. Many plans still couldn’t keep up with changes—trips planned at the start of the year, promised studies, things I wanted to buy… a whole pile of matters were either postponed or shelved. Seeing all kinds of fun photos on friends’ blogs or WeChat Moments always leaves me sighing. But no matter what, let’s tidy up our mood and prepare to welcome the new year.
Following tradition, here’s a set of numbers that can represent this year.
Numbers
280 million
First of course is the pandemic: cumulative confirmed cases have exceeded 280 million by today, whereas when I wrote last year’s summary the figure was 82.97 million. Domestic control remains fairly stable, but abroad the situation is still extremely grim. The pandemic will clearly last a long time; at present there’s no hint of an end. In closing I’ll repeat last year’s words: wear a mask, wash your hands often.

26394+ & 6393+
This year a total of 6,393 friends visited this quiet place, contributing 26,394 page views and 84 new comments. Thank you~
Because at the end of April I switched from Baidu’s personal-account analytics to its business-account analytics, the data lacks almost half a year. The upside is that I no longer need mobile verification when logging in.

2412.23
I spent ¥2,412.23 on games this year, including various titles bought on Steam, Genshin Impact gacha for Kamisato Ayaka, and Apex skins. In the end Genshin still forced me to hit hard pity almost every time, Apex yielded no heirloom after opening more than a hundred crates at once, and I never won a single Bilibili giveaway. Truly, luck can’t save the unlucky, and paying can’t change fate ∠( ᐛ」∠)_
17
Counting this post, I wrote 17 articles this year—half as many as last year. The main reason is that graduation stuff piled up and I was simply too lazy to write anything. (Reading other people’s articles is way more fun than writing your own.)
8/10
Plans for ’21!
The final number is of course this year’s goal completion rate: I set 10 small targets last year and achieved 8. Thanks to the graduation project I also learned (got started with) Python and OpenCV. Barely made it.

Future
Civil-service exam? Grad school? Or 996?
In the end I chose the civil-service exam. First, I don’t particularly love my major; I still prefer typing code in front of a screen. Second, a civil-service job is stable and hassle-free. I hope future me won’t regret this choice.
Epilogue
I finished this article in fits and starts, and the rain outside my window has finally stopped. So let’s call it here; while the sun is out I should go for a walk. Finally, I wish all friends big and small a Happy New Year—may the coming year be joyful. See you next year.
One more thing! I recently spent some time designing a fun little game; if all goes well it should be released on Chinese New Year’s Eve along with red packets ヾ(≧∇≦*)ゝ.
